Exploring

Exploring sends you wandering the city grid, one tile at a time, picking up scraps, cash, experience, and reputation as you go. It's free to access — no unlock cost, no special item required — just spend turns and see what the block has for you.

Turns

  • You get 100 explore turns, refilled twice a day — at noon and at midnight, not once — for up to 200 turns from resets alone.
  • Turns don't carry over — whatever's left when a reset hits is wiped to exactly 100, not added to.
  • Out of turns? Exchange 1 Point for 25 explore turns, up to 10 exchanges per day (up to 250 bonus turns) — so your real daily ceiling is closer to 450 turns.
  • If you're enrolled in the Alignment War, your position on the map persists between resets. If you're not enrolled, each reset moves you back to the center of the map.

Explore Streaks

Spending at least one turn since your last reset keeps a daily streak alive — but that's only checked at the midnight reset, so exploring in the morning and then stopping before noon won't save your streak; you need at least one move after the noon reset too.

The Grid

The city is a 60×60 grid (3,600 tiles total). You move one tile at a time in four directions — Up, Down, Left, Right — no diagonal movement. Walking into the edge of the map doesn't cost a turn, so you can't waste moves bumping into the boundary.

The Overview Map

The Explore landing page shows a live overview of the whole 60×60 grid — every tile colored by whichever faction currently controls it, with unclaimed ground left dark. Tiles you haven't personally explored yet are covered by a light fog-of-war overlay; walking through an area for the first time clears the fog there for good.

  • Both factions' home base zones are highlighted in a distinct color from their regular territory, so you can spot them at a glance instead of just reading tile color.
  • Your own position is marked in yellow.
  • Your own faction's flag shows on the map whenever it's sitting safely at home — the enemy's flag never shows at their base, since it can't be touched there anyway. Either flag becomes visible the moment it's picked up or dropped out in the open.
  • A legend under the map keys every color — Hero/Villain territory, Hero/Villain base, You, Flag, and Unexplored — so none of it has to be memorized.

Districts

The grid is split into 5 districts by quadrant, plus a center zone:

  • Slums — bottom-left
  • Downtown — bottom-right (cash finds here are 1.5× larger)
  • Industrial — top-left
  • Heights — top-right
  • Mid-City — everything in the middle

These districts tie into the Alignment War — whichever side (Hero or Villain) controls a district gets a small standing bonus while exploring there (extra scraps, extra cash, and similar perks depending on the district), and stepping onto a tile your own alignment controls vs. one the enemy controls shifts the flavor text you get, though it doesn't change your actual reward math beyond the district control bonus itself.

Landmarks

11 named landmarks are scattered across the map — City Center, The Slums, The Heights, The Bodega, The Junkyard, The Arsenal, The Hospital, Industrial Zone, Uptown, The Docks, and Financial District. The first time you ever set foot on one, you get a one-time bonus of roughly 20–40 scraps on top of whatever that move's normal event rolled. It only pays out once per landmark, ever — no farming it by walking back and forth.

What You Find

Every move rolls two things: the kind of tile you land on (flavor only) and what actually happens there (your real reward):

EventOddsWhat Happens
Scraps50%1–7 scraps, +2 on an Alley tile, +3 on a Crime Scene tile.
Cash20%$20–$300 flat (does not scale with level), ×1.5 in Downtown.
Reputation10%1–4 Rep — positive if you're a Hero, negative if you're a Villain.
NPC Encounter12%A real fight — your win chance scales with your Power/Speed/Strength against your level, roughly 55%–95%. Win and you get EXP; lose and you take 5–12 HP damage.
Special8%A bonus 6–12 scraps on top of the normal roll — the best outcome on the table.

Tile type (Street, Alley, Subway, Rooftop, Crime Scene, or Rare Location) is mostly flavor, except Alley and Crime Scene tiles bump your scraps roll as noted above.

Pawnable Finds

Independent of the table above, every move has a small (1 in 15) chance of turning up a pawnable item — common, uncommon, or rare. It's added straight to your Backpack; sell it at the Pawn Shop for cash and Pawn Points.

Fresh Legs Bonus

Your first turns each day are worth more:

  • Turns 1–5: double rewards (2.0×)
  • Turns 6–10: +50% rewards (1.5×)
  • Turn 11 onward: normal rewards (1.0×)

Worth spending your first 10 turns of the day deliberately rather than burning them without paying attention.

Rare Pet Finds

Every district has a small chance per move to find a rare pet, but only if you have an open pet carrier slot:

DistrictPossible Pet
SlumsRaccoon (1 in 400)
DowntownCrow (1 in 400)
IndustrialPolice K9 (1 in 600), Iguana (1 in 500)
HeightsParrot (1 in 600)
Mid-CityBlack Cat (1 in 800), Fox (1 in 600)

Territory Claiming (Alignment War)

If you're enrolled in the Alignment War, you can also spend 2 turns to claim the tile you're standing on for your side instead of exploring it normally:

  • Claiming an unclaimed tile always succeeds.
  • Claiming an enemy-held tile is an 80% chance to flip it.
  • You need at least 2 friendly tiles touching the one you're claiming — you can't claim in isolation, territory has to grow outward from what your side already holds.
  • Successful claims earn War Points, capped at 25 per reset — since turns reset at both noon and midnight, that's up to 50 War-Point-earning claims a day. Past the cap, claims still flip tiles, they just stop earning War Points until the next reset.

Tips

  • Spend your first 10 turns of the day intentionally — the Fresh Legs bonus makes them worth up to double.
  • Path toward landmarks you haven't visited yet — the one-time bonus is a real chunk of scraps for a single move.
  • If your alignment controls a district, exploring inside it is quietly better than an equivalent enemy-controlled or neutral tile.
  • Don't dump every spare Point into explore turns — 10 exchanges a day is the cap either way, so there's a real ceiling on how much this can extend a session.
